Some of our OFWs who are working abroad are able to come back home to our country in one piece while some are stuck in a foreign land due to criminal accusations charged against them.
Despite these unfortunate events, President Rodrigo Duterte remains confident that he would be able to bring back Pinoy OFWs home safely during his 3-day state visit in Saudi, Qatar, and Bahrain.
In his departure message, Pres. Duterte told the media that he would bring back the Pinoy OFWs who were given pardon by the Saudi King. He also said that he would meet up with the Filipino community in Saudi on Thursday before proceeding with his visit in Bahrain.
Apart from that, he mentioned that he will also bring back home seven OFWs in the death row.
According to the President, there are at least 5,000 OFWs in Jeddah alone that have already been given clearance to come home.
“Diyan sa Jeddah ‘yan. Iyong mga nabigyan ng permission of clemency to whatever it was may clearance na about 5,000 of them, sisimulan na natin silang iuwi. Ang unang batch, pagdating ko pagbalik, Inshallah, nandito na ‘yung iba,” the President said.
His overseas visit to these countries also involves discussions with King Salman on OFW benefits as well as economic and political cooperation between their country and the Philippines.
He also plans to personally thank King Salman for helping stranded OFWs who wish to go home to the Philippines with their air fare.
