LAOAG CITY--A 60-year-old woman died after she was hit by an ambulance on a road in Barangay 20, Laoag City on Tuesday morning.
The victim was identified as Hermigilda Gallegos, who suffered a severe head injury.
According to the investigation, the victim suddenly crossed the national highway and got hit by an ambulance of the Department of Public Safety (DPS) Office owned by Laoag City Government and driven by Kenwick Francis Corpuz.
The ambulance was travelling fast to respond to a patient who had suffered a heart attack.
"Urgent yun call sa office namin kasi may patient raw na nagha-heart attack," SPO2 Sean Francis Bugaoisan said.
Police also added that despite the blinking lights and loud siren of the ambulance, the victim still crossed the road.
Febie Lumaoang, the victim's younger sister, said the family will not file a case and will ask for financial help from the driver instead.
"Mahirap tanggaping parang bangungot ang pangyayari pero sana tumulong sila sa gastusin dahil mahirap lang kami," Lumaoang said.
The driver of the ambulance refused to comment on the incident. Meanwhile, the DPS said they will provide assistance to the family.
