Senator Leila de Lima should be ready to answer alleged Eastern Visayas drug lord Kerwin Espinosa’s claims against her at the resumption of the Senate public order committee probe, Senator Panfilo Lacson said Tuesday.
Lacson said this after Sen. De Lima appealed to her colleagues not to use the hearing scheduled Wednesday to embarrass her.
“Humingi siya ng assurance na di siya ipapahiya ng kapwa senador; I don’t think fellow senators gagawa ng sadyang pamamaraan para ipahiya siya,” Lacson, chair of the committee, said.
“But she should also be prepared na sagutin kung i-confront siya directly ni Kerwin Espinosa kung ano ang ugnayan nilang dalawa,” he added.
According to Lacson, Espinosa’s draft affidavit indicates that De Lima was one of the government officials he supposedly gave drug money to.
De Lima allegedly received a total of P8 million, an accusation the senator has denied.
De Lima said she intends to attend the public order committee hearing, but she has no plans of confronting Kerwin.
“Sa ngayon wala po akong balak magtanong sa kanya. Makikinig po ako sa kanya, and titignan ko po,” De Lima said.
“Kasi what did I tell you, kasi no-brainer talaga yan…Talaga naman na expected na yan, na ituturo na naman ako,” she added.
