De Lima to Filipinos: Stand up to ‘sociopathic serial killer, dictator’ Duterte

Senator Leila de Lima on Tuesday called on Filipinos to stand up to and speak out against President Rodrigo Duterte, whom she called a “sociopathic serial killer” and “dictator.”
“Ngayon ay panahon na naman upang tayo ay manindigan at tumayo sa harap ng isang kriminal na diktador at rehimeng mapaniil,” De Lima said as she recalled how the country overthrew the Marcos dictatorship 30 years ago.

“Ipaglaban natin ang ating karapatan, ang hustisya at ang ating demokrasaya,” the senator said.

De Lima said Duterte’s leadership style is to do things his own way, confident that he cannot be held accountable because of his presidential immunity.

“Alam na natin na walang batayang prinsipyo ang mga aksyon ng Pangulo. Basta trip niya, gagawin niya. Hindi dahil tama o mali, kung hindi kaya niyang gawin at hinahayaan lang natin siya,” De Lima said.

“Ang tawag dito, kawalan ng pakundangan,” she said.

Colorful language

Sought for comment, Malacañang downplayed De Lima's fresh accusations against the President.

"Those are colorful language," Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella said in a press briefing.

Asked about De Lima's call for the Cabinet members to declare Duterte as unfit for the presidency, Abella's curtly replied, "Seriously?"

De Lima was accused before the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court for alleged violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 over her alleged involvement in the drug trade inside the national penitentiary. — MDM, GMA News
