Duterte tells ERC commissioners to resign

President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday ordered all commissioners of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to resign.

"Binastos nila," Duterte said in a press conference in Lima, Peru, where he is attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Leaders' Meeting.

The President said he received internal and intelligence reports about anomalies in the ERC including questionable appointments, including having too many consultants, and how its officials deal with contracts.
Duterte clarified that he is asking ERC officials, not the rank-and-file to resign.

During the press conference, the President also said that he will ask Congress to dissolve the ERC and order its reorganization.

Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi on Sunday vowed to find out the truth behind allegations of corruption made by ERC Director Francisco Villa Jr., who had committed suicide.

The late ERC director, brother of broadcast journalist Charie Villa, revealed the corruption activities within the ERC in his suicide notes. —report from Joseph Morong/ALG, GMA News
