Senator Alan Peter Cayetano on Friday hit back at Vice President Leni Robredo, saying she should “stop campaigning and thinking of the presidency” and instead help out the Duterte administration.
In a long response addressed to Robredo posted on his official Facebook account, Cayetano said: “In a nutshell, I challenge you to stop campaigning and thinking of The Presidency and help attract investments, build infrastructure, create jobs and redistribute wealth in our country.”
“Let's do it together,” added Cayetano, the running mate of President Rodrigo Duterte in the 2016 elections who placed third in the vice presidential race.
Cayetano issued the statement after Robredo challenged him to speak up against the Marcos family despite his loyalty to Duterte.
Duterte and the Marcoses are close friends. It was Duterte who promised during his presidential campaign that he will allow the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos to be buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani. Marcos was buried last month.
Answering Robredo’s challenge, Cayetano said: “Let me assure you I am doing what I can on the manner that I believe I can be most effective.”
He said Robredo should demand his allies in the Liberal Party (LP), the former ruling party, who are supposedly involved in the illegal drug trade to “resign and be jailed.”
Senator Leila de Lima, a member of the LP, has been repeatedly accused by the President of involvement in the drug trade during her term as Secretary of Justice under the Aquino administration. De Lima had denied such allegations.
Cayetano further said Robredo should seek justice for the so-called SAF 44 or the 44 Special Action Force personnel killed during the Mamasapano clash, as well as the victims of “tanim bala” at airports, and the “MRT anomalies.”
Cayetano said Robredo should also “expose” other LP personalities in their supposed involvement in graft and corruption.
The senator also said Robredo should ask media entities, including the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ), to look into her donors and supposed undeclared expenses during her campaign.
Cayetano earlier asked the PCIJ why he was being singled out in a report disclosing the campaign donors of President Duterte.
He also said Robredo should ask media outlets “that supported you to be fair and objective.” —KBK, GMA News
