New Vois Association of the Philippines (NVAP), a cancer prevention, person with disabilities (PWD) and tobacco control advocacy local group encouraged President Rodrigo Duterte to impose a nationwode smoking ban.
According to Charina Clarisse L. Echaluce of Manila Bulletin, the local group expressed their hopes that the government would be smoking ban all across the country, noting how 10 people die every hour due to smoking.
"Umaasa kami na agarang ipagtibay ang komprehensibong smoke-free policy sa buong bansa nang sa gayon ay agad na mabigyang proteksyon ang kalusugan ng mga taong laban sa mga sakit na dulot ng paninigarilyo" says Emer Rojas, the NVAP President.
He further added that the President's hometown Davao City was already a great exemplar as the World Health Organization acknowledged it as an effectively smoke free city.
