With the ongoing administration's war on drugs, many controversies have been arising and thrown over Duterte and the Pnp. But despite these, the President announced at the 10th Anniversary rites of the East Mindano Command in Panacan, Davao City and emphasized that he is still in full support for the Philippine National Police (PNP) especially to Chief of Director Gen. Ronald Bato Dela Rosa. He also noted how the policeman has imitated his style of blustery rhetoric.
"Alam mo, si Bato nauunahan ako sa yabang.. Iyon ang style ko eh. Sinunod talaga nya tuloy ako hindi makasalida [take the first spot]. Limitado na ang papel ko," said Duterte. This is after Dela Rosa made headlines when he urged drug users to kill drug lords and burn their houses in a speech in Iloilo, which was later clarified by Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella saying that it was simply a passionate statement.
Meanwhile, Duterte ended the speech, building Dela Rosa's credibility saying that he had known the chief since his youth days as an officer in Davao. He also shared how he is one of the god fathers in Dela Rosa's wedding.
"But you know Bato, he has my support.. He is simply loyal to the republic of the Philippines, not to me, "he said.
