In a report by GMA’s Saksi, the set of equipment in the raided laboratory seemed much bigger and more sophisticated than those seized from previous labs raided.
Furthermore, the so-called “mega-laboratory” produces no smoke or odor and was found to be capable of churning out 100 kilos of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) per day.
It was also learned that the facility had just started production and was in operation for only 20 days.
An informant, according to Atty. Eric Isitoro, Chief, Anti-illegal Drugs Unit of the NBI, have disclosed that the produced shabu was marketed locally and also out of the country.
Around P2-billion worth of illegal drugs, chemicals and lab equipment were confiscated; including tools and six machines used in the manufacture of shabu, said NBI Deputy Director for Investigative Services Ricardo Pangan.
The NBI had started their trailing of the suspects since August, and the raid was, according to reports, pursuant to a search warrant by the Manila Regional Trial Court.
The shabu laboratory was previously a farmers multi-purpose cooperative, and covers one hectare of land.
The NBI was conducting an inventory of the seized drugs as of Thursday afternoon.
In a News5 video upload, the Chinese nationals tried to escape, but were caught. As seen in the video, shabu were packed in green tea bags.
