Chinese National Who Allegedly Smuggled P6.2M Illegal Drugs Will Be First Victim of Death Penalty?

A 27-year old Chinese woman was caught with 4.2 kilos of shabu at Mactan Cebu International Airport last Tuesday.

Liming Zhou is being investigated by the Philippine Regional Office of Central Visayas (PRO-7) after a stash of shabu worth P6 million was found inside her luggage.

Zhou said the luggage was not hers, but belonged to the Cousing of her Canadian lover. She was ordered to bring it to Cebu, where she will be picked up and shuttled to a nearby hotel.

Chief Supt. Noli Taliño, head of PRO-7, said thet are still looking for Zhou's possible accomplices.

Meanwhile, some netizens were calling for blood and demand death penalty if Zhou is found guilty.

"Pag Pilipino bitay agad sila," a furious netizen wrote. "Ganti tayu bitayin rin sila."

The Filipino-Chinese community in Cebu, on the other hand, fear that the increased emphasis on the arrest of Chinese nationals may be due to the maritime dispute between China and the Philippines.

Joni Chan, President of Chinese Businessmen in Cebu, asked for caution and proper investigation from the authorities.
