Panelo to De Lima: Get medical help

Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo on Thursday advised Senator Leila de Lima to see a doctor as he warned her that her recent tirades against President Rodrigo Duterte could be grounds for criminal liability.

In a statement, Panelo said that De Lima "may be off her rockers" when she urged the public to stand up against Duterte whom she described as a "sociopathic serial killer" and "dictator."

"Concerned with the mental and psychological state of Senator [Leila] de Lima, it is for her best interest that she engages the services of a competent medical professional to assist her in these trying times," he said.

"Her continued and relentess tirades against President Duterte could lead to criminal liabilty for the commission of the crime of inciting to sedition," he added.

"Under the law, inciting to sedition refers to a crime committed by someone who, without taking any direct part in sedition, incites others to inflict any act of hate or revenge against the person of the President by means of speech, among others," he added.

Panelo pointed out that the issue of extrajudicial killings and the existence of the Davao Death Squad were already raised and discussed during the electoral campaign, but still Duterte won by a landslide.

"The electorate in giving President Rodrigo Roa Duterte an overwhelming mandate has factored such issue hence the people have spoken in repudiating such lie," he said. —KG, GMA News
