Over 10,000 drug offenders surrender to the “Punisher”

Iligan, Philippines – The number of drug offenders who submit to the authorities rose to roughly over 10,000 after the 16th President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte sworn last Thursday.

Duterte, also known in the international community as the “Punisher” has already scared a bunch of alleged drug user and pushers all over the country since poll day, May 9, this year, as he vows to curve down criminality, drugs, and corruption as well as stand by on law enforcers in cases where it has executed a suspected criminal while performing his duty.

There were more or less 240 offenders surrendered themselves at Camp Tomas Cabili, Tipanoy, Iligan City, close to 1000 surrendered to authorities from all over Cagayan de Oro City, and 8 self confessed drug pushers, including 2 women, voluntarily surrendered in Bukidnon.

The “Punisher’s” warning is also chilling drug offenders in the coastal district in Dagupan City, of which about 500 confessed drug addicts turned themselves over to their village chief a day after Digong’s oath-taking.

The huge turnout of drug personalities to various locations in the country might be attributed to PNP’s “Operation Tokhang” from the Cebuano dialect “Tok-tok-Hangyo” or Knock and Request.

In the program, the law enforcers visit suspected drug dependents and trafficker’s houses to request them to stop and cooperate with the authorities. The rehabilitation of the substance abusers as well as lively-hood programs was also integrated.

Nevertheless, in most cases where huge turned out of drug personalities happened because they are frightened to be the next subject to extra judicial killings following the death of several known drug top dogs in the nation.

It is anticipated that these numbers would increase specially in the far-flung towns in the Philippines.
