TNF- A group of photographers on Sunday commemorated the 118th Philippine Independence Day with a walking exhibit of their photos of President-elect Rodrigo Duterte.
The exhibit "DUTERTE: The Making of a President" at the Rizal Park in Manila featured photos of Duterte taken by the Philippine Photographers' Development Coop (PhotoDev) during the lead-up to the recently concluded May 9 elections.
In a statement, PhotoDev president Mel Cortez said: "We are hoping that incoming President Rodrigo Duterte will be the real catalyst for change in the country and we are ready to support him."
But, apart from documenting and supporting Duterte's efforts to trigger social change, Cortez said they will also use their craft to expose any wrongdoing by the incoming administration.
The group also welcomed Duterte's reported plan to issue an executive order for freedom of information (FOI), which is seen by some as a good first step in the quest for improved transparency.
"With the decisive support of incoming President Duterte and the incoming new leadership at the House of Representatives and the Senate, the rights of the people to information on matters of public interest shall finally be realized," Cortez said.
