Big-time drug lord sent surrender feelers, says incoming DILG chief!

Incoming Interior chief Mike Sueno has revealed that a big-time drug lord operating in Mindanao wants to turn himself in to authorities, fearing that President-elect Rodrigo Duterte's reward system against narcotic honchos would eventually snare him.

Sueno told GMA News Online in a chance interview last Friday on the sidelines of the Farmers' Congress in Mlang town that the supposed drug lord is operating in South Cotabato.
Also, he said elements of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) have been verifying information regarding the supposed drug lord.

He did not name the "big-time" drug lord but said that two weeks ago the suspect's lawyer went to his residence in South Cotabato to tell him the desire to surrender.
“Allegedly this big-time drug lord is afraid being killed especially that President Duterte is offering bounty,” he said.

All the drug lord was asking in exchange for his surrender is a guarantee that he would not be killed,  he added. But Sueno would not take any action on the offer to surrender before PDEA agents could validate all information about the drug lord.

Also, the incoming Interior secretary assured anyone involved in illegal drugs trade that due process of law will be followed if there is a sincere desire to go back to the folds of law.
He warned all local officials involved in illegal drugs to stop their illegal activities.

“Local government officials involved in illegal drugs trade will surely have a place in jail," he said, adding that the Office of the Ombudsman has vowed full cooperation in efforts to put an end to the drug menace in the country.

He claimed that so far, there are at least 30 local chief executives on his list, and that he already has  names of all policemen that are into illegal drugs.
“For now I don’t have the lists. But once I have their names, validation efforts would follow and if proven true, then they will have to face the consequences,” he said.

“President Duterte mandates to us is only four letters word STOP. Meaning, stop corruptions stop illegal drugs and stop any illegal practices,” he added.
