Presumptive Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte met with Zhao Jianhua, the Chinese ambassador to the Philippines, on Monday afternoon in Davao City.
The two had friendly and sincere exchanges on the development of China-Philippines relations, according to a press statement from the Chinese embassy.
Zhao congratulated Duterte on winning the presidential election, the embassy said.
He said China and the Philippines are good neighbors, partners, and relatives, and the Chinese side is looking forward to working with the Philippine side to properly deal with the differences, deepen traditional friendship and promote mutually beneficial cooperation, and bring their bilateral ties forward, the embassy added.
Duterte said he is willing to improve and develop China-Philippines relations, and strengthen the bilateral cooperation to benefit peoples of both countries, according to the Chinese envoy.
