MANILA, Philippines – Actress-singer Aiza Seguerra joins the list of celebrities who pledged to campaign for Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte. And like action star Robin Padilla, she will be doing it for free.
Seguerra has expressed her support for Duterte as early as last year. Her partner, Liza Diño, is the daughter of Martin Diño; the former presidential bet of the Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Laban ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) where Duterte belongs.
“I really wanna focus my energy to campaign for him,” Seguerra said; adding it will be a voluntary effort on her part – meaning ‘free of charge’.

“Kasi para sa akin, kapag binayaran mo ako para ikampanya kita, ibig sabihin nun, binayaran mo ‘yung pagkatao ko, ‘yung prinsipyo ko,” explained the 32-year-old singer. [Because for me, if you pay me to campaign for you, it means you bought my dignity, my principles.]
Asked why she chose Duterte over his four other rivals, Seguerra said she felt the man’s sincerity; not to mention the mayor’s track record which could speak for itself.
Seguerra added that Duterte is not a trapo(traditional politician), but one who is sincere in helping this ailing country, and that separates him from other candidates.
“I feel his sincerity. I feel his passion na ayusin talaga ‘yung bansa natin [to fix this country],” the former child star stressed. “He may be a strong man, he may be that, but aminin natin, ang tigas ng ulo nating lahat, ‘di ba? [but we have to agree that most of us (Filipinos) are stubborn, right?]
She further said that she believes Duterte may not necessarily be the man most people want, but he is the man the country needs right now.
Aside from Aiza Seguerra and Robin Padilla, other celebrities who have earlier pledged to support Duterte’s presidential bid are Parokya ni Edgar frontman Chito Miranda, Mocha Uson of the Mocha Girls, Apo singer Danny Javier, Camille Prats, Kristoffer Martin, Bangs Garcia, Gretchen Ho, Francine Prieto, Bryan Termulo and Angelica Panganiban, among others.
