11,950 gallstones were the cause why an Indian woman from Kolkota, West Bengal, India suffered from severe stomachache. The doctors were surprised for a huge number of gallstones they discovered inside the woman's gall bladder.
Minati Mondal, 51 years old, had been suffering from severe gall bladder attacks with extreme stomach pain, abdominal pain and acid reflux for more than two months. She was confined in the hospital. After some tests and ultrasounds, doctors found out that she was suffering from a severe case of gallstones.
Dr. Makhan Lala Saha removed the gallstones for one hour long surgery.
"I was astonished to see the large number of stones that we extracted from the gall bladder of this patient. I had never thought a gall bladder could contain so many stones. It took my assistants four hours to count the number of the stones that were between 2mm and 5mm in size. It took us 50 minutes to remove them," he said.
Dr. Saha also communicate with the Royal College of Pathologists in London to see if they will keep Minati's specimen in the museum.
